2026-2027 RSRS Update - Rising 2Y Students, April 10, 2026

We hope you are doing well. Many of you are wondering when you will receive information about room selection. Here is your first update! Please be sure you take to review the contents of this email ahead of our next email scheduled for next Friday.

For those of you participating in Residential College Room Selection, this email supplements that process in case you do not select a room through RCRS next week. All students who are eligible to select a room on that day have already received their assigned time slot for that process. Rising second-year students with a time slot that do not select a room during that day will receive a priority number for general room selection.

Rising 2Y Priority Numbers

Priority numbers for rising 2Y students will be issued on Friday, April 17. This will give most students approximately 5 days to adequately prepare for the room selection process. A separate email will be sent with your number on that day.

Please be sure that you are using Roommate Finder to form or edit roommate groups prior to room selection. If you cannot find your intended roommate here are some tips and tricks:

  • Make sure you both/all checked that you would like your profile to be show in Roommate Finder, and you both/all have compatible answers for gender housing requirements. If either of you sets that to no/unchecked or have incompatible gender housing answers, you will not be able to find each other even if you directly search with your NetID.
  • When searching for a roommate you have already picked, please only fill the NetID field, not the name field.

Be sure to review your roommate groups early to ensure they are formed correctly. Our room selection website has some tips for suite style rooms and how many people should be in your roommate group. Please keep in mind that Roommate Finder remains open throughout the entire process to allow folks to edit groups if they fail to secure their first choice room type (e.g., if you do not secure a suite for your group, then you can break up a group). Please be sure your group is set before you enter the system.

Rooms are selected based your assigned priority number, the room type, and the timeslot assigned to your priority number for a particular room type. The timetables have been published on your website. Click here to view the room selection timetables. Once you have your priority number, you can plan exactly when you will need to enter the Housing Portal to make a selection.

The majority of students participating in room selection have never participated in this process. Our team has recorded a video tutorial to help you know what to expect. Please take some time to review it in the next week.

If you have any questions about the RSRS process after reviewing all available resources, please contact Residential Services at housing@northwestern.edu.

 Sincerely,

Residential Services

Early Decision – Housing Contract Information, March 2, 2026

We are excited to welcome you to campus in September! Today we are writing to share that the 2026-2027 housing contract is now live on the Housing Portal. Please be sure to click on "Apply & Contract" from the home page. Between March 2 and June 1, you can go into the Portal to submit your contract with your housing preferences. You can go into your contract and make changes through June 1.

  • The timing of your housing contract submission does not provide an advantage for receiving your top preferences.
  • Please review our housing options on our website. We have virtual tours for many of our buildings.
  • A flow chart and  are available on our New Student Housing Assignment Process page. This is an excellent resource for you to review as you navigate your housing contract.
  • Roommate Finder will be live on tomorrow, March 3. This is where you can set up a roommate group with another student you know or search for roommates on your own. .

If you have any questions, please email our office at housing@northwestern.edu

Sincerely,

Residential Services
